Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do sports and band?

Absolutely, yes you can! In 2024-25 school year we had over 20+ students on football, basketball, baseball and volleyball. Our coaches and music department coordinate to make sure students are able to participate in all aspects of our school. There are minimal after school practices in band, we do our best to enable your child to participate in outside activities.

How do I pay my students band fees?

FMMS Band Boosters use a 3rd party software called Presto to manage all band fees and dues. Reminders for fees are sent on a monthly basis. Parents may wish to avoid Presto card fees and send in cash/check, this is more than welcome! Please send the payment with your student, they will fill out an envelope with their name, grade, and payment reason and leave in a secure payment box in the Band Room. Delivered payments are collected weekly by the FMMS Band treasurer, and input into Presto. Please reach out to fmmsband.treasurer@gmail.com if you have further questions.

What if I can’t afford band?

We keep our costs to a minimum to ensure all of our students have the opportunity to be in band. If finances are a concern, please contact Mr. English and ask about receiving a band scholarship.

What if I don’t want to do band until my 7th Grade year?

The majority of students that say “I’ll join band my 7th grade year” never actually join their 7th grade year year. If you’re on the fence about band, take the chance and try it. I’ve never met a student on the fence who regretted joining band. In fact the students on the fence tend to be the students that have the best experiences and become great leaders for our band.

What if I get my schedule and band isn’t on it?

It is never too late to join the band. If band isn’t on your schedule, please let Mr. English know and the counseling department know so we can get it fixed.

Can I try the instruments to help with my decision?

YES! There is an instrument testing event during which you can try all of the instruments offered. We can make recommendations based on initial sounds and sizing.

How do I get an instrument?

We recommend waiting to get an instrument until our instrument rental night meeting unless you already play or are signed up with a private lesson teacher.

Purchasing an instrument online can be a risk when first entering the instrument world.  Please hold off until the first meeting where you will receive a specification sheet to help guide you in your purchase. Mr. English is available for assistance with purchasing an instrument.

Some instruments can be rented from the school at a reduced rate. See Mr. English for more details.

My student outgrew their band shirt, who do I contact for another one?

Please reach out to Mr. English @ trey.english@hcbe.net or Veronica Wildey @ fmmsband.treasurer@gmail.com to get a new band shirt for your student.
